Title: Chun-Ji:

Belt - White

Starting Position: Parallel Ready Stance  - L19

Chun-Ji means "The Heaven and Earth". It is, in the Orient, interpreted as the creation of the world or the beginning of human history, therefore , it is the initial pattern played by the beginner. This pattern consists of two similiar parts, one to represent the Heaven and the other the earth


1) Turn 90 degrees to the left and left low block in a left front stance.
2) Stepping forward with the right foot and right punch in a right front stance.
3) Turn 180 degrees to the right and right low block in a right front stance.
4) Stepping forward left punch in a left front stance.
5) Turn 90 degrees to the left and left low block in a left front stance.
6) Stepping forward right punch in a right front stance.
7) Turn 180 degrees to the right and right low block in a right front stance.
8) Stepping forward left punch in a left front stance.
9) Turn 90 degrees to the left and left inner forearm block in a Left "L" stance.
10) Stepping forward right punch in a right front stance.
11) Turn 180 degrees to the right and right inner forearm block in a Right "L" stance.
12) Stepping forward left punch in a left front stance.

Belt - Kiopow 2nd Degree

Starting Position: Parallel Ready Stance  - L21

Dan-Gun: Named after the holy Dan-Gun, the legendary founder of Korea in the year of 2333 B.C.

1) Turn 90 degrees to the left and double knife hand block in a Left "L" stance.
2) Step forward and face punch in a right front stance.
3) Turn 180 degrees to the right and double knife hand block in a Right "L" stance.
4) Step forward and face punch in a left front stance.
5) Turn 90 degrees to the left and low block in a left front stance.
6) Step forward and face punch in a right front stance.
7) Step forward and face punch in a left front stance.
8) Step forward and face punch in a right front stance, Kiop.
9) Spin 270 degrees towards the left and square block in a Left "L" stance.
10) Step forward and face punch in a right front stance.
11) Turn 180 degrees to the right and square block in a Right "L" stance

Belt - Kiopow 4th Degree

Starting Position: Parallel Ready Stance  - R24

The pseudonym of the patriot Ahn Chang-Ho (1876-1938). The 24 movements represent his entire life which he devoted to furthering the education of Korea and its independence movement.

1) Turn 90 degrees to the left and left outer forearm block in a left front stance.
2) Without stepping, right punch.
3) Turn 180 degrees to the right and outer forearm block in a right front stance.
4) Without stepping, left punch.
5) Turn 90 degrees to the left and double knife hand block in a Left "L" stance.

The noted monk who instroduced Buddhism to the Sila Dynasty in the year 686 A.D.

1) Tum 90 degrees to the left and square block in a Left "L" stance.
2) Without stepping, right knife hand strike.
3) Step forward in a middle stance and left rib punch.
4) Step left foot to right foot and right foot steps 180' in a Right "L" stance and square block.
5) Without stepping, left knife hand strike.
6) Step forward in a middle stance and right rib punch.
7) Step right foot to left into a closed stance and double outer forearm block 900 to the left.
8) Left stationary side kick.
9) Step forward and double knife hand block in a Left "L" stance.

Belt - Green 4th Degree

Starting Position: Parallel Ready Stance  - L38

A pseudonym of the great philosopher and scholar Yil (1536-1584) nicknamed the "Confucious of Korea". The 38 movements refer to his birthplace on the 38th degree lattitude and the diagram (+) represents "scholar".

1) Step to the left in a middle stance and extend right hand, wrist release, left pressing punch.
2) Stay in middle stance and right punch.
3) Stay in middle stance and left punch.
4) Left foot steps to right foot, right foot steps out in a middle stance, left hand out, wrist release, right pressing punch.
5) Stay in middle stance and left punch.
6) Stay in middle stance and right punch.

Belt - Blue 2nd Degree

Starting Position: Closed "B" Ready Stance  - L32

Named after the patriot Ahn Joong-Gun who assinated Hiro-Bumi Ito, the first japenese governor-general of Korea, known as the man who played the leading part in the Korea-Japan merger. There are 32 moves in this pattern to represent Mr. Ahn's age when he was executed at Lui-Shung prison (1910).

1) Turn 90 degrees to the left and left ridge hand block in a Left "L" stance.
2) Left front kick.
3) Step forward and right high palm heel in a right rear stance.
4) Turn 180 degrees to the right and right ridge hand block in a Right "L" stance.
5) Right front kick.
6) Step forward and left high palm heel block in a left cat stance.
7) Turn 90 degrees to the left and double knife hand block in a Left "L" stance.
8) Shift the left foot to a front stance and right high elbow strike.
9) Step forward and double knife hand block in a Right "L" stance.
10) Shift the right foot to a right front stance and left high elbow strike.
11) Step forward and twin vertical punch in a left front stance.
12) Step forward and twin up-set punch in a right front stance, Kiop.

Starting Position: Closed "B" Ready Stance  - R37

The pen name of the noted scholar Yi Hwang (16th century), an authority on neo-confucianism. The 37 movements of this pattern refer to his birthplace on the 47th degree lattitude, the diagram (+) represents "scholar".

1) Turn 90 degrees to the left and left inner forearm block in a Left "L" stance.
2) Shift forward and right reverse palm heel strike in a left front stance.
3) Bring the left foot to the right foot in a closed stance 90 degrees to the right, right backfist and left low block simultaneously.
4) Turn 90 degrees to the right and right inner forearm block in a Right "L" stance.
5) Shift forward and left reverse palm heel strike in a right front stance-
6) Bring the right foot to the left foot in a closed stance 90 degrees to the left, left backfist and right low block simultaneously.
7) Step forward and low X-block in a left front stance.
8) Without stepping, high twin vertical punch.
9) Right front kick.
10) Land forward and right solar plexus punch in a right front stance.
11) Without stepping, left solar plexus punch.
12) Bring the left foot to the right foot, 90 degrees to the left in a closed stance, and bring both fists to the hips simultaneously.

Title: Hwa-Rang:

Belt - Red 2nd Degree

Starting Position: Closed "C" Ready Stance  - R29

Named after the Hwa-Rang youth group, which originated in the Sila Dynasty in the early 7th century. This group eventually became the actual driving force of the unification of the kingdoms of Korea. The 29 movements refer to the 29th Infantry Division, where Taekwondo developed into maturity.

1) Facing forward, step with the left foot and left palm heel strike in a middle stance.
2) Remain in middle stance, and right solar plexus punch.
3) Remain in middle stance, and left solar plexus punch.
4) Turn 90 degrees to the right and square block in a Right "L" stance.
5) Remain in a back stance and left upset knuckle punch.
6) Step forward and right punch in a middle stance.
7) Shift right foot back and right knife hand strike in a closed stance.
8) Step forward and left punch in a left front stance.
9) Turn 90 degrees to the left and left low block in a left front stance.
10) Step forward and right solar plexus punch in a right front stance.
11) Shift forward,vath the left foot and left hand grab and pull in a closed stance.

Title: Choong-Moo:

Belt - Red 4th Degree

Starting Position: Parallel Ready Stance  - L30

Name given to the great Admiral Yi Soon-sin of the Yi Dynasty. He was reputed to have invented the first armored battleship (kobukson) in 1592, which was said to be the precursor to the present day submarine. The reason why this pattern ends with a left hand attack is to symbolize his regrettable death, having no chance to show his unrestrained potentiality checked by the forced reservation of his loyalty to the king.
